Large Pot: This is where the magic happens!
Wooden Spoon: For stirring everything together.
Knife and Cutting Board: To chop up veggies and ham.
Measuring Cups: To get the right amounts.
- 1 pound dried split peas
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 carrots diced
- 2 celery stalks diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 ham bone or 2 cups diced ham
- 8 cups chicken broth or water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Rinse the split peas in cold water.
Heat oil in the pot and sauté onions, carrots, celery, and garlic until soft.
Add peas, ham bone, and broth to the pot. Bring it to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Remove the ham bone, then season with salt and pepper.
I always give the soup a good stir every now and then to keep it from sticking.
It's great to make a big batch because flavors get better the next day. 🌟
You can freeze leftovers, so it’s an easy meal for later.
Feel free to add other herbs like thyme for extra flavor. Enjoy! 😋
